Area Soldier Killed in Iraq







This week an area soldier from Altoona who was killed in the line of duty was laid to rest.  Read the article and/or watch this video and comment on what was done to honor this local hero.

    i like how they used th fire trucks to hang the american flag and how they had sargents carry his coffin out.

    i think that what they did for this shoulder was amazing. it showed that everyone really did care about him. the fact that he saved 12 lives and then lost his own life. i think that this shoulder died a hero.

    i think its terrible thing that the soldier was killed. i also think that the ceremony they had for him was really nice and well deserved for someone who risked his life for ours. its really sad that you have to burry your son. especially because you wouldnt have seen them in a while because they were fighting for our country. its just really sad.

    i think it's a terrible thing to have to burry your child that served his country. When Matt was finally laid to rest the soliders gave his family the American flag in his honor of serving. Although most people think that marines are strong tough guys, most of the men that attened the ceramony were sadden by the lose of one of them. Also, for his wife Yasmin, she said they grew up together and had a great connection/bond between one another.

    This was a big deal around the community, he sacrified his life for his buddies, and for any man that takes alot. It doesnt seem like a huge deal but when that many people come to a town near you for one person, thats something really nice.

    I think for what he did he is a hero. How many people would actually crawl into open fire to save their comrades lives while giving up their own. I'm sure not many for that I know he is a good man and a great solider.

    i think its great how people come together for just one person and one family all these people get together and support this family in its hard times as there son died and for his country
