What's your News IQ?
To test your knowledge of prominent people and major events in the news, take this short 12 question quiz. Then see how you did in comparison with 1,003 randomly sampled adults asked the same questions in a recent national survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.
Included in the current version of the quiz are several questions relating to the state of the economy as well as other prominent happenings and people in the news. For an analysis of the findings from the poll on the public's News IQ, read the full summary of findings. (No peeking! If you are going to take the quiz, do it first before reading the analysis.)
You'll also be able to compare your News IQ with the average scores of men and women; with college graduates as well as those who didn't attend college; with people who are your age as well as with younger and older Americans.
Are you more news-savvy than the average American?
In the comment section discuss one or more of the following issues:
1. What role should the news play in the lives of average Americans?
2. Why should we pay attention to what's going on in our community, state, nation and world?
3. What can we do to improve awareness of current events, especially among young people?
4. What can I do as a teacher to help students understand the news and be more interested in our world?

the news for most citizens is a way of life you find out local national and world issues. to improve awarness of current events just watch the news and read the paper anything importaint will be on there
ReplyDeleteWe should all pay attention to the news because we would be able to understand better what is going on and why. Most people don’t understand why something is happen because we don’t pay attention to the news. People think that they know exactly what is going on and why when they don’t read into it or get any information what’s so ever. also of there is something on the news telling us that we need to get ready for a flood or something like that we won’t be ready because we didn’t watch the news.
ReplyDelete1. I think the role the news plays is that, it shows us the curent problems in the u.s.
ReplyDelete2. So we know what is recently happening. Also, it would show us if anything is towards us.
3. I think they should put news flashes and some news on cartoon channels and show at least ten mintues of news a day.
4. Show something that is interesting. Something that's not to boring.
I believe that the news should play a role in 75% of peoples life. I believe that we should pay attention because what would happen if everything got worse in every persons life. We could improve the young lives by talking about what happened in the news about 10 minutes in class every single day. You could help by creating more opportunities for us to learn about waht happens in the current events.
ReplyDelete1 The news should inform people about whats going on in the world. it should give the actual truth instead of sugar coating everything.
ReplyDelete2. we should pay attention to it because it all applies to us in some way. big or small. Obama sending away more troops could put one of our family members in harms way etc.
3.In classes such as civics we should have more current event days. some people dont know what going on because they think it doesnt apply to them. people should just care more about whats going on.
4.MORE CURRENT EVENT DAYS!
What role should the news play in the lives of average Americans? The news should play a role in the average americans by telling us whats going on in are community and how it is affecting are daily lives.. News should tell us how the world is being treated and instead of what goes on in other countries.
ReplyDeletei think every american should know a little bit about whats going on in the world, or their community.
ReplyDeletebecause without knowledge of whats going on, we cant know where were going.
insert current events into teenagers history classes.
kick corban out of the class!
I believe that the news should be a larger part of the average Americans life. I think that our county could be seen as "uneducated" towards what is happening in our country. Most people do not actually know what is happening in our country and I think that that is a problem. We need to pay attention on what is going on because some of it may actually apply to us. This is what’s causing us to seem "uneducated" in a sense.
ReplyDelete1. I believe the news should play a huge role in the lives of all Americans.
ReplyDelete2. We should pay attention to all news in our town, state, and country because in a nutshell it all effects you because you live in the USA
3. I believe that national news should be brouht into the average day of all Highschool students to keep them involved
4.Have more current event days.
most people's quiz isn't so great because they have not learned most of these questions
